Position title: United Way of Skagit County - Skagit Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educator 

Supervisor:  Rita Ordóñez, Financial PEOPLE Project Coordinator,, 360-336-6401. 


The Financial PEOPLE (Peers Empowering Others by Providing Leadership and Education) Project will deliver financial education to participants in locations where they regularly gather (Habitat for Humanity, Skagit Valley College, Head Start, libraries, apartment complex community rooms, job training sites, etc.). The Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educator will be trained to lead sessions for groups of community members who share common financial goals such as 1) stabilized housing, 2) establishing a checking/savings account, 3) reducing debt, 4) improving credit, and/or 5) developing and maintaining a household budget. Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators will learn skills in an environment supported by community volunteers, financial education experts, and the Financial PEOPLE Project Coordinator. They will work as a team with other Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators to 1) set up, facilitate and coordinate a series of classes that will guide community members on improving their financial capabilities, and 2) link participants to banks, credit unions and other organizations providing financial education and services. Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators will be required to transport themselves to training and community financial education sessions.

Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators can make an impact by assisting families and individuals to learn new tools for financial stability and financial self-sufficiency. 

Volunteer Benefits:

Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators will be trained in: meeting management, public speaking, group facilitation, and resource navigation. They will gain experience working as a team to lead financial education sessions using these skills. 

Location and Time committment:

  • Location to be decided

  • Time Commitment – 4-8 hours per week through June 2021Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators will be expected to participate in the project through June 2021. In appreciation for their ongoing commitment to the project, United Way will provide gift cards to help offset expenses of the Financial PEOPLE Project Volunteer Educators.
