Dr. Paul Chaplik, Executive Director of United Way of Skagit County for 12 years, retired the end of July, 2010.
A celebration of his service to United Way was held on Friday, August 20. More than 60 people – Board members and representatives of United Way’s partner agencies – attended. Board President Sue Krienen noted that Paul served as Executive Director from 1998 to 2010. During that time, over 9 million dollars was raised by United Way and distributed to help youth, seniors, and people in need. In 1999, United Way helped 20 non-profit agencies; in 2010, over 30 agencies are part of the United Way team.
Other speakers noted Paul’s organizational skills and care of Board members. He served as a mentor to many individuals and his integrity helped create a model of encouraging others to ‘play well together.’
Paul was joined at the lunch celebration by his wife Joan and children Matt, Jonna, and Cyndi and son-in-law Ted.
